Technical Manager Job Description
Job Summary:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and hands-on Technical Manager to lead the technical function of our business, a UK-based manufacturer specialising in Ultraviolet (UV) and Infrared (IR) technology. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background, excellent leadership skills, and a proven track record in delivering innovative technical solutions. You will oversee product development, engineering support, and technical service, playing a vital role in ensuring the quality, performance, and continuous improvement of our product range.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the technical team across design, engineering, testing, and technical support functions.
- Oversee the development and enhancement of UV and IR systems for industrial and commercial applications.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on complex engineering issues, product customisations, and application-specific solutions.
- Work closely with the sales and marketing teams to support technical enquiries, customer demonstrations, and product training.
- Ensure that all products meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards (CE/UKCA marking, RoHS, etc.).
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in product performance, manufacturing processes, and system reliability.
- Manage product lifecycle from concept to production, including documentation, testing, and validation.
- Stay up to date with advancements in UV/IR technology, materials, and relevant industry standards.
- Liaise with external suppliers, partners, and testing houses as required.
Requirements:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Proven experience in a technical leadership or managerial role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Strong knowledge of UV and IR technology and their industrial applications (e.g., curing, drying, heating, disinfection).
- Experience with product development, systems integration, and engineering documentation.
- Excellent problem-solving, project management, and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with sales, operations, and production teams.
- Proficiency with CAD software, electrical schematics, and technical analysis tools.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with compliance standards relating to UV/IR systems (e.g., EN 62471, ISO standards).
- Experience working with OEMs and custom-engineered solutions.
- Knowledge of thermal systems, optics, or photonics would be advantageous.
